BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF NORTH GEORGIA
YOUTH OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER 2017
THREE RIVERS CLUB, GILMER COUNTY
Clear Creek Middle School – 7th Grade
Devin became a Club Kid in the fall of 2014. During her time with us, she has taken on responsibilities when asked and has reached out to others as a “first friend” for new Kids. She is eager to participate in all program areas and has proven to be a young lady on whom the staff can rely in any situation. She is an excellent choice for our Optimist Club’s Club Kid of the Month!
“I like hanging out with my friends”, Devin shared with us regarding why she likes to attend the after-school program. Spending time in the designated “teen room” means she has a chance to visit with her peers.
Devin enjoys playing in the gym while at the Club. She also enjoys running (CCMS track hopeful), listening to music and playing basketball. There is always a game of basketball taking place!
Career goals for Devin are to be a professional photographer for the National Geographic. With all the beauty of North Georgia mountains, she has a chance to get plenty of practice.
Mom, Victoria, has this to say about Devin being a Club Kid: “It is a safe place for my children (Jenna) to be. They have fun and it keeps them involved, while implementing the same values we practice at home.”
Ellijay Elementary School – 2nd Grade
Waylon first walked through the Club doors in the summer of 2015. Since that time the staff have seen a young man develop in the role of friend and active participant in the programs offered. To see his smile and eagerness to try new things make Waylon our Optimist Club sponsored selection.
Waylon likes coming to the Club because there are different activities for everyone. One thing he particularly enjoys on “no electronic Friday” is being allowed to borrow Ms. Jan’s Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty!
Hobbies and interests for Waylon include reading, painting and just plain old playing! While at the Club, Waylon can usually be found in the Power Hour Room reading.
Graduation from High School means working toward his goal of being a scientist. His interest in working with Mr. Mickey on “deconstruction zone” days means he gets to take apart computers, toaster, vacuum cleaners or whatever Mr. Mickey found for the day. This is great exposure to scientific thinking!
Waylon’s Dad, Greg, has this to say about the Club: “I like having my children (daughter Katelyn attends, as well) at the Club because they are safe and they have a great learning environment. Ms. Jan and all the staff are great with the kids.”
