YOUTH OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER 2017
THREE RIVERS CLUB, GILMER COUNTY
Ellijay Elementary School – 3rd Grade
Baylie joined our Club in the summer of 2016 and has been a very active member! When the staff selected her for the Gilmer County Optimist Club sponsored honor, it wasn’t difficult to select this young lady who always has a smile for us and an impish grin that lets you know she is watching your every move. There isn’t a part of our program that Baylie doesn’t seem to enjoy.
Baylie shares her love for the Club is because” it is lots of fun and I make a lot of friends and we can play games.” Baylie truly is friends with everyone and reaches out to our new Club Kids, making them feel welcome.
Activities she enjoys at the Club include art, gym, game room and doing homework or reading in the Power Hour room. When she isn’t at the Club or school, she enjoys cooking.
Baylie plans to become a chef after high school “because I like to cook and make cookies.” She also likes to eat them when we have them donated for special holiday events!
Mom, Amy, likes to have her at the Club because” it’s a safe place for her to go after school and during the summer. The Leaders in Training (LIT) are very caring and help her learn. Boys & Girls Club provide very good programs and activities. Baylie loves going!”
Gilmer Middle School – 6th Grade
In the summer of 2016, Noah became a Club Kid. Since joining our Club, Noah has become involved in all aspects of our summer and after school activities. His generous heart and willingness to step up to help when asked are just two of the reasons our staff selected him for this honor, sponsored by the Gilmer County Optimist Club. He is an excellent role model for our younger Club Kids and will make an excellent addition to our Leader in Training Program, should he apply.
Noah states he likes coming to the Club because “if gives me time to see my friends. I can play some of my favorite games in the gym like dodgeball, soccer, capture the flag or some basketball, and going outside on the baseball field is fun. When I play on the field, it gives me time to play soccer and football.” The Club is grateful to Gilmer Parks and Recreation for the opportunity to use the gym and fields!
Noah has set his goals after high school to go to college or go “straight to playing soccer on a professional level.” Meanwhile, he loves playing rec league soccer!
Dad, Jason, had this to say about Noah’s participation in the Club: “I like having Noah attend the Club because of the great programs that are offered; the encouragement my sons (Seth also attends) receive; the leadership opportunities that are available; and the kind and caring staff.”
