JMS Club March Youth of the Month
NAME: Leo Rodriguez
SCHOOL: /GRADE: Jasper Middle School 7th grade
How long has this child been a Club Member? Approx. 3 years
Why Selected? Leo enjoys coming to the club. He gets along well with other club members, is a good speller and has great comments when we have group discussions.
Youth Quote: Leo says the Boys & Girls Club to him is a program that teaches who you want to be and what you can do with your future. They teach you that you can always do better than what you’re doing right now. When you have problems that need to be sorted out, they’re always there for you. They teach you the better choice and what is not good to do at all. They tell us that if we do something wrong that ‘everybody makes mistakes’ but you are the one that can keep most of the problems or mistakes from happening. They say it is always better to help people than to hurt people’s feelings. They help us prepare for the future by letting us know that everything that you do affects everybody and especially you. That is why they say ‘think before you do or say anything’. That is what Boys & Girls Club is to me!
Parent/Guardian Quote: Christina says, “The Boys & Girls Club is a life-saver. The services that they provide have been a tremendous help with our family’s busy schedules. Aside from providing an after-school or summer program, they teach our son the benefits of staying drug free, responsible and completing school. They are a big help with Leo’s schooling by requiring a section of the after-school day dedicated to homework. The lectures and classes they teach the kids help in building self-esteem, responsibility, being prepared for the future and providing these students with a safe environment in which to grow up and just be kids. We will be forever grateful to the Boys & Girls Club and their staff for the time that they give to our son and all the other members.”
Special Activities/Hobbies: Leo has a dog named Gracie, is a black belt in taekwondo and likes soccer and exploring the outside.
Career Aspirations: Leo wants to be a contractor because he likes to do physical work and it involves math and measuring. If this doesn’t work, then he wants to be a history teacher, a priest, or a chef.
